Floor Coating
The floor coating must simultaneously possess five core characteristics: strong adhesion, excellent wear resistance, superior water resistance, strong impact resistance, and environmental friendliness without toxicity, in order to meet the requirements of daily foot traffic, cleaning, heavy object impacts, and long-term use.
Floor coatings are surface materials that directly bear human foot traffic, movement of furniture, cleaning and rinsing, and environmental changes. Unlike wall or ceiling coatings, their performance requirements place greater emphasis on physical strength and environmental adaptability. Main types include water-based floor paints, epoxy floor coatings, polyurethane-based and cement-based waterproof coatings, etc. The weight of specific characteristics varies depending on the different scenarios (such as home kitchen vs industrial workshop).
Core features of floor coating
- Strong adhesion:
Must firmly bond with alkaline substrates such as cement mortar, avoiding peeling and detachment; maintains adhesion even during temperature and humidity changes.
- Good wear resistance:
Resists long-term walking, dragging, and friction from wheeled equipment, with the coating not powdering or revealing the base; industrial-grade requirements are higher, while for household use, emphasis is on daily durability.
- Excellent water resistance and chemical resistance:
Can be repeatedly washed with water, resist oil stains, weak acids, and weak alkalis, suitable for areas prone to contamination such as kitchens and bathrooms.
- High impact resistance:
Can withstand heavy objects falling and tools knocking without cracking or significant indentation; SBS modified asphalt also has self-healing ability, capable of repairing minor punctures.
- Environmentally friendly and safe:
Free of harmful substances such as formaldehyde, free TDI, and heavy metals; water-based products use water as the diluent, with no irritating odor during construction, and extremely low VOC.
Floor coatings are not simple materials that can be applied in a single layer. Instead, they need to be precisely matched with specific properties according to the application scenario: water-based floor paint is preferred for households (environmentally friendly + easy to apply), epoxy floor paint is used in high-load areas (wear-resistant + chemical-resistant), while SBS and other rolls are only suitable for waterproof construction layers and cannot be directly used as floor finishes.
For domestic kitchens and bathrooms, due to their small size, numerous corners, and the need for tiling, cement-based polymer coatings are more suitable; while in industrial settings, epoxy or polyurethane systems are preferred.
