Definition and Classification
Enamel paint and ordinary paint are two common types of coatings. They differ significantly in terms of composition, performance, application, and appearance.
- Enamel paint:
Also known as "ceramic paint", it is a type of paint with high gloss and hardness. It is usually made from varnish as the base material and mixed with pigments through grinding. After drying, the coating becomes hard and smooth like porcelain, hence the name.
- Ordinary paint:
Generally refers to chemical mixture coatings for general purposes. There are many types, including blending paint, alkyd paint, etc., and are widely used for indoor and outdoor decoration and protection.
Product features
- Component
Enamel paint mainly consists of resins (such as phenolic and alkyd), pigments, and some contain varnish base materials.
Ordinary paint has a more complex composition, mostly being chemical mixtures, and may not contain high-gloss resins.
- Glossiness
The gloss of enamel paint is high, presenting a mirror-like or semi-glossy effect
Ordinary paint has a lower gloss, typically being matte or semi-matte.
- Hardness and Adhesion
The magnetic paint coating is hard, has strong adhesion and good wear resistance.
Ordinary paint has relatively low hardness, is prone to scratching and has average adhesion.
- Weather resistance
Enamel paint has strong resistance to high temperatures and climate changes, and is suitable for outdoor use.
Ordinary paint has poor weather resistance and is prone to losing its luster and fading when exposed for a long time.
- Solubility
The magnetic paint is insoluble in water, but it can be dissolved in organic solvents such as gasoline and kerosene.
Ordinary paint is similar to the magnetic paint, but some of the products have poorer solvent resistance.
- Application scenario
Enamel paint is commonly used in situations where high standards are required, such as on metal surfaces, vehicles, window screens, and outdoor facilities.
Ordinary paint is mostly used for basic protection and decoration of indoor wood, furniture, and walls.
Fluorocarbon paint is a type of high-performance enamel paint. Its weather resistance and self-cleaning properties far exceed those of ordinary enamel and varnish, and it is suitable for long-term exposure environments such as bridges and building exteriors.
Additional explanatory notes
- The "alkyd enamel" and "varnish" in magnetic paint both belong to the category of traditional paints. However, alkyd enamel has a higher gloss and is more suitable for outdoor use; while varnish has a softer texture and is more suitable for indoor use.
- In terms of construction, magnetic coatings usually require better substrate preparation and matching primers. Especially for high-performance magnetic coatings (such as fluorocarbon coatings), a rust-preventing primer should be used to avoid problems like substrate corrosion and blistering.
If you are seeking a coating effect with high gloss, high hardness and strong durability, especially in metal or outdoor environments, magnetic paint is recommended; if it is only used for simple indoor decoration or short-term protection, ordinary paint can already meet the basic requirements.
