Where is epoxy zinc-rich primer used on steel structures?

Epoxy zinc-rich primer

Epoxy zinc-rich primer is mainly used on the base surface of steel structures. As the primer of the anti-corrosion coating system, it is suitable for rust prevention priming of various steel structures' entire or key parts.

As a two-component anti-rust primer, epoxy zinc-rich primer has excellent anti-rust properties, adhesion, mechanical properties and supporting properties. It is suitable for steel anti-rust in atmospheric environment, and is widely used in general anti-corrosion, chemical atmosphere, Marine environment and other anti-corrosion and weatherproof coating, such as: Plant steel structure, large Bridges, port machinery, heavy machinery, oil mining and mine equipment, buried pipelines, oil storage tank outer wall, gas tank outer wall and ship hull and deck above the water line and other steel structure heavy anti-corrosion system.

Epoxy Zinc-Rich Primer

Core application area

Epoxy zinc-rich primer is used as a heavy-duty anti-corrosion coating and should be directly applied to the surface of the steel structure after rust removal.

Specific scenarios include:

  • Overall structure: All exposed metal surfaces of steel structures in buildings, bridges, storage tanks, containers, ships, offshore platforms, etc.
  • Key nodes: Weld seams, bolted connection areas, corners, rivets, etc., which are prone to corrosion or stress concentration (additional pre-coating or thickening treatment is required).
  • Special environment areas: Steel structures in contact with water, salt spray, chemicals, such as pipeline inner walls, port facilities, chemical equipment, etc.

Application scenarios

Industrial factory steel structures:

Applied to beams and columns, support frameworks, and roof load-bearing components. The key requirements for corrosion resistance are resistance to industrial atmospheric corrosion and adhesion.

Bridge steel structures:

Applied to main beams, piers, and connecting components. The key requirements for corrosion resistance are weather resistance and anti-fatigue corrosion.
Storage tanks/pipelines:

Applied to inner walls, outer walls, and interface flanges. The key requirements for corrosion resistance are solvent resistance and saltwater resistance.
Marine/port facilities:

Platform structures, steel piles of docks. The key requirements for corrosion resistance are resistance to high salt fog and prevention of electrochemical corrosion.

Supporting system and function

Epoxy zinc-rich primer needs to be used in combination with intermediate coatings (such as epoxy chromate) and topcoats (such as fluorocarbon paint, polyurethane paint), forming a three-layer protection system of "primer + intermediate coating + topcoat".

  • Undercoat (epoxy zinc-rich): Provides cathodic protection, adhesion and base corrosion prevention
  • Intermediate coating: Increases the thickness of the paint film and enhances the shielding effect;
  • Topcoat: Resists ultraviolet rays and weathering, and improves the decorative quality.
